John Clavell Mansel-Pleydell (1807-1902) was an eminent Dorset antiquary, known for contributions to geology, botany, and ornithology on which subjects his several works are still highly regarded. He founded the Dorset Natural History and Antiquarian Field Club, remained its President until his death and was sometime (1876) High Sheriff of Dorset.
