11 albumen prints, approx. 88 inches altogether when opened, each photo approximately 7.5 by 8 inches, mounted on linen and accordion folded Quarto (covers) original burgundy cloth lettered in gilt This iconic panorama, 360 degrees, of San Francisco was created by Muybridge the summer of 1877 and consists of eleven photographs. The center panel has a printed title, photographer's credit and publisher's informaiton. The panorama was photographed from the tower of the unfinished residence of Mark Hopkins, the railroad king, at California Street hill, now known as Nob Hill. The view was captured over a period of several hours and is a remarkable technical achievement since it took a number of complex calcuations to accurately orient each exposure in order to assemble a continuous image Expertly rebacked and refurbished, preserving original cloth, interior with minimal brown spots and foxing
