Description

8vo., Second Impression, with frontispiece, numerous illustrations in the text and endpaper maps, some light offsetting from fold-ins to free endpapers, small contemporary signature on front free endpaper; blue cloth, backstrip lettered in silver, a very good, bright, clean copy in unclipped dustwrapper, the latter wanting upper third of backstrip. With a small quantity of relevant cuttings loosely inserted. Published a month after the first edition. Bright copy of this classic account of FRANKTON, the attack by Royal Marines canoeists on enemy merchant shipping in Bordeaux harbour in 1942. This book forms the basis of Jose Ferrer's feature film (1955) starring Trevor Howard. The striking wrap-around dustwrapper artwork is by Francis Russell Flint from his painting commissioned for the film. ALL EARLY PRINTINGS ARE SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION. Enser, p.111; Law, 0926 (recording the first edition).
